Skilled Worker visa

Work

We prepare first Skilled Worker applications: entry clearance, switching, and new grants. Extensions with the same or a new employer are a separate page.

This page is general information about UK immigration routes. It is not advice on your case. Rules and fees change. Confirm the current position before you pay a Home Office fee.

Who this is for

  • You have a job offer from a UK sponsor with a licence.
  • You are applying from abroad or switching from inside the UK.

What this route is

The Skilled Worker route replaced Tier 2 (General). It is a points-based application. The caseworker checks sponsorship, the occupation code, English, and salary, plus maintenance or a TB certificate where those rules apply.

Five years on the route can lead to indefinite leave, but settlement is a later test of salary and sponsorship. Time on a Graduate visa does not count towards those five years.

Requirements we check

  • A licensed sponsor and a Certificate of Sponsorship for an eligible role.
  • The points for the job, the salary floor, and English. B2 is the English level discussed under the newer rules. Check the rule in force on the day you apply.
  • Maintenance funds, unless the sponsor certifies them.
  • TB screening if your residence history requires it.

Evidence that usually matters

  • Certificate of Sponsorship details that match the contract.
  • Payslip or salary evidence the code requires.
  • English test or a degree taught in English, if relied on.
  • TB certificate where Appendix Tuberculosis applies.

How we work

  1. Read the position. We read the CoS, the code, and the salary against the points table.
  2. List the gaps. We check dependants are allowed for this code and CoS date.
  3. Prepare the application. We prepare the visa application to match the CoS.
  4. Check before filing. We file while the CoS is still valid.

Where applications go wrong

  • A CoS for a code that does not match the real job.
  • Salary quoted in the contract that is not the figure on the CoS.
  • Assuming a previous visa type can switch when the rules say it cannot.
