Marriage visitor visa

Family

This route is for people who will marry or form a civil partnership in the UK and then leave. It does not lead to settlement.

This page is general information about UK immigration routes. It is not advice on your case. Rules and fees change. Confirm the current position before you pay a Home Office fee.

Who this is for

  • You want to give notice and marry in the UK.
  • You will leave at the end of the visit.
  • You do not plan to switch to a spouse visa from inside the UK.

What this route is

The marriage visitor visa sits under the visitor rules. The stay is up to six months. You cannot work, you cannot claim public funds, and you cannot switch to a partner visa in the UK after the wedding.

Notice of marriage is at least 29 days. If the Home Office investigates, the notice period can run to 70 days. Plan for that longer period.

Requirements we check

  • A genuine visit with a clear plan to leave.
  • Funds, ties to your home country, and a credible ceremony plan.
  • Any previous refusals explained with evidence.

Evidence that usually matters

  • Invitation or booking details for the ceremony.
  • Evidence of work, study, or family ties at home.
  • Bank statements that match the income you declare.

How we work

  1. Read the position. We check you do not actually need a fiancé visa.
  2. List the gaps. We build the “will leave after the wedding” evidence.
  3. Prepare the application. We allow for a 70-day notice period in the timetable.
  4. Check before filing. We prepare the visitor application.

Where applications go wrong

  • Using this visa when the real plan is to stay.
  • An invitation with no proof of the sponsor’s status.
  • Funds that appear in the account without an explanation.

The AHM professional fee is confirmed in writing before we start and can be higher if the case is complex. We strongly advise a 30-minute initial consultation (£70) first. The UKVI application fee is paid to the UK Government and is not included in our fee. The Immigration Health Surcharge, priority services, biometrics, translations, and English or TB tests are also separate. Confirm the current government fee on GOV.UK before you apply. See the full fee schedule.
