Fiancé visa

Family

A fiancé visa lets you enter the UK to marry or form a civil partnership, then apply to stay. It is not a spouse visa and it is not a marriage visitor visa.

This page is general information about UK immigration routes. It is not advice on your case. Rules and fees change. Confirm the current position before you pay a Home Office fee.

Who this is for

  • You plan to marry or form a civil partnership in the UK with a British or settled partner.
  • You will apply from outside the UK.
  • You intend to live together in the UK after the ceremony.

What this route is

You normally have six months from the date you enter the UK, not from the date of the grant, to give notice, marry, and submit the application to stay.

Do not assume the visa can be extended if the wedding is delayed. If you only want to marry and then leave, the marriage visitor visa is the different route.

The financial requirement and an English test usually apply. The immigration health surcharge is not the usual charge at the fiancé entry stage. It is charged when you apply to remain after the wedding.

Requirements we check

  • A genuine intention to marry within six months of arrival.
  • The sponsor’s income or savings meet the financial requirement.
  • English language, unless exempt.
  • Arrangements for the ceremony that fit the notice period.

Evidence that usually matters

  • Evidence of the relationship and of plans to marry.
  • Financial documents in the specified format.
  • Passport and previous immigration history.

How we work

  1. Read the position. We confirm fiancé is the right route, not marriage visitor or spouse.
  2. List the gaps. We timetable notice, ceremony, and the later FLR(M) application.
  3. Prepare the application. We prepare the entry clearance bundle.
  4. Check before filing. We check the six-month clock will still leave time to apply to stay.

Where applications go wrong

  • Choosing a marriage visitor visa when you plan to live in the UK.
  • Booking a ceremony that cannot fit the notice rules.
  • Letting the six months run out before FLR(M) is filed.

Our fees

Fiancé(e) Visa£1,250£2,064

The AHM professional fee is confirmed in writing before we start and can be higher if the case is complex. We strongly advise a 30-minute initial consultation (£70) first. The UKVI application fee is paid to the UK Government and is not included in our fee. The Immigration Health Surcharge, priority services, biometrics, translations, and English or TB tests are also separate. Confirm the current government fee on GOV.UK before you apply. See the full fee schedule.
