Skilled Worker dependant visa

Work

Partners and children of a Skilled Worker can apply to live, work, and study in the UK. Some jobs no longer allow dependants.

This page is general information about UK immigration routes. It is not advice on your case. Rules and fees change. Confirm the current position before you pay a Home Office fee.

Who this is for

  • You are the husband, wife, civil partner, or unmarried partner of a Skilled Worker.
  • You are applying for a child of a Skilled Worker.

What this route is

This is the route people still call a PBS or Tier 2 dependant visa. Permission usually matches the main applicant’s visa.

If the Certificate of Sponsorship is dated on or after 22 July 2025, and the job is below RQF level 6 or is on the Temporary Shortage List, the family application can be refused because that role does not allow dependants. Check the code and the CoS date before anyone pays a fee.

If the visa is refused, the immigration health surcharge is normally refunded. The application fee usually is not.

Requirements we check

  • A main applicant with permission, or applying at the same time, on a code that still allows dependants.
  • A genuine relationship, or the required proof for a child.
  • Maintenance funds unless they are certified.

Evidence that usually matters

  • Marriage or partnership evidence, or birth certificates and consent for children.
  • The main applicant’s CoS or visa details.
  • Bank statements for maintenance if required.

How we work

  1. Read the position. We check the occupation code and the CoS date against the dependant ban.
  2. List the gaps. We confirm relationship evidence for each family member.
  3. Prepare the application. We link the applications so the reference numbers match.
  4. Check before filing. We prepare the forms and the bundle together.

Where applications go wrong

  • Applying for a partner when the new CoS is in a role that cannot bring family.
  • Unmarried partners with less than two years of cohabitation evidence.
  • Children’s applications missing a consent or a birth record.

The AHM professional fee is confirmed in writing before we start and can be higher if the case is complex. We strongly advise a 30-minute initial consultation (£70) first. The UKVI application fee is paid to the UK Government and is not included in our fee. The Immigration Health Surcharge, priority services, biometrics, translations, and English or TB tests are also separate. Confirm the current government fee on GOV.UK before you apply.
