Indefinite leave to remain

Settlement

We prepare settlement applications on the Skilled Worker route and the partner route.

This page is general information about UK immigration routes. It is not advice on your case. Rules and fees change. Confirm the current position before you pay a Home Office fee.

Who this is for

  • You are completing five years as a Skilled Worker, or on a partner route that leads to settlement.
  • You need absences, salary, and cohabitation checked before you pay the Home Office fee.

What this route is

Indefinite leave removes the visa expiry date and the usual work restrictions, and it allows access to public funds. It is not the same as citizenship. Leave can lapse if you are outside the UK for more than two continuous years.

On the Skilled Worker route the Home Office looks again at salary, the sponsor, absences, and suitability. A partner application looks again at the relationship and the five-year timeline. The guide figure for the Home Office ILR fee around 8 April 2026 was £3,226. There is no immigration health surcharge on ILR. Confirm the fee on GOV.UK.

Requirements we check

  • Five years of qualifying residence on the route you are using.
  • Absences inside the limit for that route.
  • For Skilled Worker cases, pay at the settlement level and a sponsor still standing behind the role.
  • For partner cases, the relationship and cohabitation still hold.

Evidence that usually matters

  • Passport stamps, boarding passes, or an absence table.
  • Payslips and a sponsor letter where the route needs them.
  • Life in the UK test and English evidence where the route requires them.

How we work

  1. Read the position. We calculate the qualifying period and the absences.
  2. List the gaps. We test salary or relationship evidence against the settlement rules.
  3. Prepare the application. We prepare the SET form for your route.
  4. Check before filing. We file only when the window is open and the documents match.

Where applications go wrong

  • Applying a day outside the 28-day window the rules allow.
  • Absences added up wrongly.
  • Assuming a Graduate visa year counts towards the five years. It does not.

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)£1,500£3,226

The AHM professional fee is confirmed in writing before we start and can be higher if the case is complex. We strongly advise a 30-minute initial consultation (£70) first. The UKVI application fee is paid to the UK Government and is not included in our fee. The Immigration Health Surcharge, priority services, biometrics, translations, and English or TB tests are also separate. Confirm the current government fee on GOV.UK before you apply. See the full fee schedule.
